O SISTER WHERE ART THOU?
SONGS AND STORIES INSPIRED BY HEROINES OF FOLK
An original show by Ciara Sidine
Mayhem, murder, cross-dressing, love and revenge abound in this cross-cultural musical journey into folk song through the ages.
Combining song and story, the show is the result of acclaimed Dublin singer-songwriter Ciara Sidine’s exploration of folk music archives, looking at the hidden herstory of girls and women. Featuring renowned guitarist Conor Brady, it runs to 75 minutes and is by turns entertaining, darkly amusing and poignant.
'To say that it was phenomenal would be to sell the gig short. Original, thoughtful, innovative. And the singing was out of this world!' Gerry O’Neill, audience response
From a reimagining of the 'Weile Waile' ballad, in a poignant lullaby stemming from a connection to famine times, to a siren-song of revenge in answer to the savage murder of ‘Pretty Polly’, to the true story behind the classic ballad ‘Frankie and Johnny’ – this set of original songs reflects an array of female aspects, maiden to crone. An unforgettable evening inspired by the music and the stories that abide and shape us.
'Haunting, provocative, so clever – wonderfully original.' Sharon Ní Bheoláin
'Every millisecond of the show was bloody brilliant. So powerful and utterly beautiful.' Natalie McDonnell
'I was blown away. A spellbindingly unique and original performance.' Adrienne Murphy
Nightly at 8:00pm.
