Bewley’s Café Theatre presents

  POE SHOW

A Gothic Diversion

Devised and directed by Michael James Ford

Music by Trevor Knight

Performed by Simon Coury, Michael James Ford, Jane McGrath, Eliott Moriarty, Colm Maher and Iseult Golden

Poe Show is a theatrical celebration of the work of Edgar Allan Poe, the tormented genius of Gothic literature. The show was staged in Bewley’s Café Theatre in 2009 to mark the 200th Anniversary of Poe’s birth and was a big critical and popular success. It has since toured widely to many venues around the country and now returns to the Viking for 5 performances only.

The show features two of Poe’s best-known stories:

The Tell-Tale Heart – a terrifying exploration of murder and guilt and

The Cask of Amontillado – a pitch-black comedy of revenge.

It also includes some of Poe’s greatest poems – The Raven, Annabel Lee, and The Bells  – and takes us on a deliciously dark descent into the maelstrom of one of history’s most frenzied imaginations.

SUNDAY INDEPENDENT: “mighty craic, delivered with spine-chilling and hilarious gusto” …  “pure unadulterated joy”

METRO **** (FOUR STARS) “delightfully grisly production”

MAIL ON SUNDAY **** (FOUR STARS) “just the right amount of wicked humour and sadistic villainy”

SUNDAY TIMES:  “…comic gold….vividly ghoulish lease of life given to Poe’s words.”

IRISH TIMES:  The Poe Show is a haunting piece of gothic entertainment that pays good tribute to the master of macabre fiction.”
