Alice Devine. Not for Sale is a powerful comedy-drama about one woman’s struggle to cope with everything post-boom Ireland can throw at her. Alice has had enough. It is time to take control.
Alice Devine is your mother, your sister, your daughter, your friend – and she’s you. She is Ireland’s Every-woman, a Shirley Valentine for the age.
Anything that can go wrong for her, does. She loses her husband, her children, her life’s savings, her home, her self-respect – everything.
But Alice has a secret. She discovers that when you lose it all, you sometimes find yourself. And when you reach the bottom, the only way out is up.
Alice berates Bertie, talks to Joe, listens to David McWilliams and learns from Richard Boyd Barrett and when it comes to action, Alice does it on her own.
“Alice Devine – Not for Sale ” tells everybody’s story, in a humorous and heart-warming way. There is nothing as up-to-the-minute as this anywhere. We are lucky to be seeing this play for the first time. It is something to tell the grandchildren” ….. Economist David McWilliams
